Our Therapeutic Treatments
At The Rooted Refuge, we believe there’s no one-size-fits-all approach to healing. In addition to our core therapies, we draw from a variety of other evidence-based and creative modalities to meet your unique needs. These approaches allow us to tailor therapy for children, teens, adults, and families—offering flexible tools that support growth, connection, and lasting change.

Attachment Therapy
Attachment therapy supports you in creating and repairing safe, healthy connections with others. You’ll learn how to strengthen trust, improve communication, and build deeper bonds in your most important relationships.

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy
DBT gives you tools to manage big emotions, reduce impulsivity, and improve your relationships. You’ll learn mindfulness, distress tolerance, and communication skills that help you find balance and strength when life feels overwhelming.

Internal Family Systems
IFS helps you get to know the different “parts” of yourself—like the protective parts and the hurt parts that hold pain. By understanding and caring for all of your parts, you’ll feel more balanced, whole, and compassionate toward yourself.

Somatic Therapy
Somatic therapy helps you reconnect with your body and release stress or trauma that can get “stuck” inside. Through gentle, body-based practices, you’ll find new ways to heal, ground yourself, and restore your sense of safety.

Play Therapy
Through play therapy, your child can express feelings and experiences that are hard to put into words. Using play, art, and imagination, they’ll build coping skills, strengthen confidence, and process emotions in a safe, supportive space.

Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT)
Somatic therapy helps you reconnect with your body and release stress or trauma that can get “stuck” inside. Through gentle, body-based practices, you’ll find new ways to heal, ground yourself, and restore your sense of safety.

Family Systems Therapy
Family Systems Therapy looks at how patterns and roles within your family affect communication and connection. By working together, you’ll learn healthier ways to relate, support one another, and strengthen family bonds.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
In CBT, you’ll learn how your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are connected. Together, we’ll identify unhelpful patterns and practice new ways of thinking and responding so you can feel more in control and confident in daily life.

Expressive Arts Therapy
Through poetry and writing, you’ll have a safe and creative outlet to explore your thoughts and emotions. This approach helps you process experiences, discover new perspectives, and express yourself in ways that words alone might not capture.

Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT)
PCIT helps you strengthen your bond with your child while also improving behavior and emotional regulation. Through guided practice, you’ll learn skills that support positive connection, reduce conflict, and build a more peaceful home environment.

Gottman Method (for Couples/Co-Parents)
With the Gottman Method, you and your partner (or co-parent) learn evidence-based tools to strengthen communication, manage conflict, and deepen connection. This approach gives you practical strategies to build trust, respect, and lasting relationships.

Narrative Therapy
In Narrative Therapy, you’re invited to explore and reframe the stories you tell about yourself and your life. By separating your identity from your problems, you gain the freedom to create new, empowering narratives that reflect your strengths and values.
Other Modalities We Use
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) - In ACT, you’ll learn how to accept difficult emotions instead of fighting them, while clarifying your core values. This approach helps you take meaningful action toward the life you want, even when challenges arise.
Motivational Interviewing (MI) - MI is a collaborative approach that helps you explore your own reasons for change. Together, we’ll strengthen your motivation and confidence so you can move toward healthier choices at your own pace.
Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) - With SFBT, the focus is on your strengths and future goals rather than problems of the past. You’ll learn how to build solutions and take small, meaningful steps forward.
Mindfulness-Based Therapy (MBT) - Mindfulness-Based Therapy teaches you how to stay present in the moment through practices like breathing, grounding, and meditation. These skills reduce stress, calm the nervous system, and help you respond to life with greater balance.
